Longitudinal image comparison

See what changes.

QLens compares biomedical images taken at different visits, locates where they differ and lays the evidence out for the physician to review.

One image is a moment. A series is the patient’s story.

QLens places a new acquisition next to the ones that came before it, marks where the images differ and presents that evidence in a form a physician can check quickly.

Instead of reading each exam on its own, the physician follows the same eye, the same region, visit after visit. QLens does the comparison work; the clinical reading stays with the physician.

How it works

Upload. Compare. Report.

The core workflow is three steps, designed to fit around a clinic day rather than add to it.

  1. 01

    Upload

Add the current exam and earlier ones to the patient’s timeline, with the date each image was acquired.

  2. 02

    Compare

QLens aligns each pair of images, matches corresponding regions and draws a box around every area that differs.

  3. 03

    Report

The physician reviews and filters the differences, reads a plain-language summary and downloads a report.

What the physician sees

Each difference is located, numbered and typed.

Boxes stay anchored to the image. Each one is numbered, tagged by severity (major, minor or uncertain) and tied to a line in the summary. QLens also separates changes in the tissue from differences caused by how the image was taken.

Anatomical

A visible change in the imaged structure itself.

Technical

Exposure, focus or device settings that differ between exams.

Framing

Field of view, angle or positioning.

Artifact

Reflections, dust or other marks that are not part of the anatomy.

The original images are preserved. Indicators are drawn on top and can be switched off.

Longitudinal review

Follow the same region across every visit.

Every patient has a timeline of acquisitions. Open any exam to see its own analysis next to a summary of how it compares with the previous one, then step backwards and forwards through the history without leaving the view.

Exams from different devices can be compared within the device and modality configurations that have been validated for QLens.

Powered by QuantumSpace

Images turned into structured, comparable data.

QLens runs on the visual-intelligence technology of QuantumSpace, a New York and Milan company that turns unstructured images into data that can be measured, compared and queried.

  1. 01Identify regionsStructures and areas of interest in each image.
  2. 02Extract featuresNumerical, colour, luminance and structural descriptors per region.
  3. 03CompareDescriptors of matching regions, acquisition to acquisition.
  4. 04LocalizeWhere the images differ, drawn as anchored boxes.
  5. 05Organize over timeObservations kept in order for longitudinal review.

A structured knowledge layer links regions, features and observations, so each flagged difference can be traced back to what produced it.

Applications

Starting with the eye.

The comparison method is not tied to one specialty. Ophthalmology comes first; other areas follow as they are validated.

Current focus

Ophthalmology

Fundus photography and OCT, compared exam to exam and across the patient’s history.

In development

ENT and other specialties

Early work in otolaryngology and other imaging disciplines where change over time matters.

Exploratory

Research and pharma

Longitudinal image review for studies that follow the same patients across months or years.

Early testing

Guided capture and follow-up

A companion environment for guided image acquisition and patient follow-up between visits.

Intended role

Designed around the physician.

QLens helps clinicians see change between exams. What that change means, whether a condition is progressing and what to do next remain the physician’s decisions.

  • Shows visual indicators of where images differ
  • Keeps the original medical images unmodified
  • Does not interpret, characterize or diagnose conditions
  • Does not replace clinical judgment or physician assessment

Use is limited to the imaging modalities and devices validated during system testing. Availability and supported configurations vary; ask us for current details.
